An Epidemiological Study on Whooping Cough in Seoul Area


Abstract
Subsequent epidemiological study was proceeded towards 10,364 school children of 3 ptimary schools in Seoul Area during October, 1962. Open-ended questionaire form was employed in this survey and the conclusions summarized as follows :
1. No significant difference is observed between both sexes.
2. As the age increases the incidence rate decreases and the highest is shown among under 1 year of age group.
3. The higest incidence rate of infant pertussis is observed at 3 to 6 months of age.
4. Out of children *ho were vaccinated completely, 16.3% are infected; 24.4% of the children who were vaccinated completely or under vaccinations are infected.
5. Among the siblings, 31.4% are infected concurrently and in general the seniors are infected first.
6. Less than 7% of the cases are treated by herb medicine.
7. The incidences are observed throughout the year; the highest is shown in May, the second in June and the lowest in January and December.
